A total of 49 new residential units will now be created in Thames Street, Staines at Forum House. The report to the planning comittee praised both my original designs, now completed, for 5-10 Thames Street and that now proposed for Forum House. The Council’s Urban Design Consultant wrote:
‘…I think the completed scheme on the northern corner of this block in very successful in townscape terms and actually improves the proportion of the original building. So to add a similar upper volume to the southern end of this building could similarly work. I note that the reduction in footprint of the top level has resulted in a much improved tiered effect when viewed from the public car park. I have experienced the increased vitality the previous scheme brings to the town at night, by having residential activity, light etc. at high level above the ‘dead’ empty office spaces below. I think in urban design terms this scheme could be acceptable’.
