For a Private Client
Carre Campana Palma
Carre Campana is a significant large historic traditional merchant’s house in the historic Sa Calatrava area of Palma Majorca. Here Will Caradoc-Hodgkins has worked with the local team of excellent consultants on the 1100 sq. m listed building that includes two separate courtyards to sensitively carry out a conservation led restoration for a private client.
The project involved a full strip out of the internal areas including staircases and the design of a more contemporary interior including a garage and living room at ground floor opening onto a rear courtyard with plunge pool. The first floor has a further living room with a kitchen and dining room opening onto a terrace overlooking the courtyard below.
The second and third floors comprise 5 bedrooms all en suite with an extensive terrace at roof level providing magnificent views over Palma with its many churches and the Cathedral.
The building’s fascinating historical past has revealed Roman artifacts below ground level and Arab work from the 7th century within the building.
The Palma City Archaeologist has recorded both the Roman and Arab work while specialist restorers were appointed to carefully restore the 17th century painted ceilings that were also revealed by the construction work.
The building’s sympathetic makeover included 6 bedrooms, staff accommodation, new kitchen, dining room, breakfast room, media room, gym and pool together with the usual ancillary accommodation and off-street parking.
