Denne Construction / Gallions Housing Association

Poplar Place, Thamesmead

This £14M affordable housing scheme for Gallions Housing Association at Thamesmead provides 62 residential units in SE London. The cascade block features a series of stepped terraces with ‘green’ roofs of sedum.

The building has a concrete frame that utilises a variant of the tunnel form Modern Method of Construction to create an efficient load-bearing cellular structure with high thermal mass. This increased speed of construction and reduced waste by its extensive re-use of formwork.

Around these frames there is rainscreen cladding on a prefabricated light steel framework, which is quick to install and flexible in the cladding materials it permits – in this case terracotta, high-pressure laminate, render and aluminium.
