Preparing for the Garden over the Ballroom

At the beginning of August I reported on the Hampstead house project that was nearing the point at which we could install the large garden over the basement structure. The work that can be seen in the accompanying photographs is the first layer of the built-up roofing system being installed above the ballroom and its ancillary accommodation in the upper basement

The roofing system is by Kemper and is being installed by an approved contractor to ensure that best practice is maintained on site. The roofing system comprises a roof build-up of a vapour shield layer bonded to the concrete substrate finished with adhesive onto which tapered insulation is placed to create falls to the drainage channel at the edge of the structure. The insulation is then covered with a durable proprietary membrane that is finished with kiln dried aggregate. The garden will be laid on top of this.
