We designed this very special house in the Surrey Hills to the most exacting standard and with the finest finishes and materials. We have created a luxurious 5,000 sq. ft. home of sublime proportions.
Property agents marketing the house describe the Surrey Hills “as famed for its peace and tranquillity as it is for the ground-breaking architecture throughout the centuries”. They consider that our design has created an individual and inspiring building that “reflects the areas passion for embracing the new whilst protecting this area of outstanding natural beauty.”
They further describe the house as an “intriguing and specialist home distinctive by design with off white rendered walls punctuated by grey framed windows and ensuring the reception space and bedrooms all enjoy the southerly aspect and abundance of terraces and private balconies.”
The kitchen has been cleverly designed with wonderful uninterrupted view of the grounds. It has white quartz stone work surfaces and a breakfast bar two double ovens, There is also an American fridge freezer and dual wine coolers.
The front door opens into an impressive double height atrium that admits sunlight and daylight to the heart of the house. Striking cantilevered timber stairs rise to the first floor, where a library/ study area is located so as to benefit from the northern light that enters from a large pair of corner windows.
The receptions spaces flow beautifully from the entrance atrium into the open plan dining area, family area and drawing room. All these rooms have floor to ceiling glazing with fully glazed sliding doors and windows opening to the terraces that cascade into the garden..
We have included in the accommodation a self contained internal suite with its own living room, double bedrooms, kitchen, and shower room that are accessed direct from the entrance atrium.. This suite also has a south facing aspect and is provided with its own patio doors giving access to its own private terrace and garden area.
The Master bedroom suite has two dressing rooms and an impressive en-suite bathroom. It also has access to a substantial glass enclosed terrace that overlooks the gardens. There are three more double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and either terraces or balconies. All terraces and balconies face south and have wonderful views over protected National Trust greenbelt.
The marketing agents point out that “throughout this sublime home there is bespoke craftsmanship” and that “oversized skirting and specialist mouldings. under-floor heating, specialist stone, ironmongery and Spanish oak doors French polished on site, all add to the feel of luxury and opulence.”
For a Surrey residential architect this is a wonderful opportunity. It is the second of two homes we have designed in this area of green belt that is an area of outstanding natural beauty and the Surrey Hills Conservation area. It adjoins National Trust land and is in an ecologically and environmentally sensitive location.
As with the East House, designed first, the planning officers required a design of the highest architectural quality as did the influential Surrey Hills Design Panel who felt that planning permission could only be granted for a house design of the highest architectural quality and sustainability.
The house design is contemporary in style while being distinctly different to East House. Approached from the main access road it presents a composition of white rendered walls punctuated by windows. The south facing private garden side of the house design expresses the English Oak frame that separates large areas of glazing
