4D Studio Architects are delighted to share news that the new Jack Ryan feature film, starring John Krasinski, is currently in production at The Story Works in Mortlake, southwest London. As reported in our previous journal articles this studio complex, situated on the historic 22-acre site of the former Stag Brewery, has been transformed into a major film and television production hub.
The Story Works was developed by producers Simon Vaughan and Damian Keogh of The Story Collective, with backing from FIFTH SEASON and Kwame Kwei-Armah. The studio emphasizes sustainability by repurposing the historic brewery buildings and benefiting from its proximity to central London, which reduces the need for extensive travel .
The Jack Ryan film serves as a continuation of the television series, with Krasinski reprising his role alongside returning cast members Wendell Pierce and Michael Kelly. New additions to the cast include Sienna Miller, Max Beesley, Douglas Hodge, JJ Feild, and Betty Gabriel. Directed by Andrew Bernstein and written by Aaron Rabin, principal photography began in January 2025 in London
Previously, The Story Works hosted the production of A Thousand Blows, a 12-part Victorian drama for Disney+ created by Steven Knight. The production utilized the brewery’s original architecture and constructed a standing set replicating East End streets and docklands, which remains intact for potential future use .
The Story Works, Mortlake Studios offers complementary facilities including two sound stages, extensive backlot space, over 20,000 sq ft of office and workshop space, and ample unit base and crew parking .
The combination of these facilities has positioned Mortlake as a burgeoning center for film and television production in London, attracting major projects like Jack Ryan and contributing to the area’s creative industry growth.
