For University of Portsmouth
Institute of Marine Science (IMS)
IMS laboratory facility designed by Teva Hesse of 4D Studio Architects while Head of C F Møller’s London office replaces an obsolete and sub-standard part of one of the University of Portsmouth’s leading departments. The site is on the coast of the Eastney peninsula, surrounded by water on three sides, which makes it ideal for studying a variety of marine habitats.
The facility houses microscopic marine organisms in holding tanks that meet Home Office standards. The laboratories on the upper floor are flexible, high-quality spaces that meet current research laboratory standards.
The internal building layout meets the UoP building brief in an efficient and flexible way. The building is energy efficient and fully accessible, meeting or exceeding current statutory requirements.
