Transformation of an NHS Estate

 Teva Hesse of 4D Studio Architects  while head of  C F Møller London collaborated with the SWLSTG Trust for over 8 years to realise the vision of the Trust’s Estates Modernisation Programme. The former Asylum site is transforming into a new neighbourhood of 1,200 new homes, refurbished historical buildings, community facilities, a care home, a school and shops. The former agricultural holdings of the asylum are being reshaped into a new 32-acre public park, open and available to all.

The new mental health hospitals are located at the centre of the site.

Our role included:

• updating the masterplan through successive planning submissions
• designing the park layout and park strategy
• testing the capacity of each residential plot
• providing design guidance for the urban realm, signage, lighting and landscaping
